Michigan DUI Attorney
Hi, my name is Jonathan Paul, and I solve problems for my clients. As part of my drunk driving practice, I work with clients on turning one of the worst moments in life, into an opportunity for reflection and growth.
When I work with a client, I view my role as both an attorney and coach. There's going to be a legal aspect to working with the client toward goals in the courtroom, but even more time spent preparing mentally, emotionally and physically for the journey together. I want my clients to know that everything is going to OK, but the client has to be ready to earn the outcome, and that requires a game plan.
We take a stressful situation, which seems very much "up in the air" into a manageable set of goals with a plan in place to improve the case every single day. I believe that a client should not be judged on a single moment, but rather should have the opportunity to turn this poor "first impression" into what I call a "true impression".
Should your DUI case define you? Absolutely not.
Your past, present and future should define who you are. This means your family, career, reputation and standing in your community should be the most important factors in how the prosecutor and court treats you.
Unfortunately words alone can't do the job, so we put real actions into place. This is a proactive approach to DUI arrests in Michigan, and something that my clients do on various types of cases.
I'm a drunk driving defense attorney in Michigan. As part of my practice, I defend doctors, fellow attorneys, nurses, executives, business professionals, senior military officers, teachers, professional and college athletes, airline pilots, and the good hard working people of Michigan who find themselves charged with a criminal offense. I have authored five books including:
- Ann Arbor Criminal Defense Playbook
- Michigan DUI Playbook
- Confessions of a Former Michigan Prosecutor
I've been selected as an ICLE contributor for continuing legal education for criminal defense for other Michigan attorneys, with a focus in drunk driving education. I have also worked as a college professor for criminal and constitutional law.
I currently live in Ann Arbor with my wife and kids, and prior to entering private practice, I was an Assistant District Attorney in New York City, and an Oakland County (Michigan) Prosecutor.
As a prosecutor, I successfully prosecuted thousands of high profile felony, misdemeanor and drunk driving cases.
Since leaving my career as a prosecutor, I've been selected multiple times by Super Lawyers Magazine. This selection by Super Lawyers Magazine was featured in Hour Detroit Magazine and the New York Times. My work as a Michigan criminal defense lawyer has also earned me a "Superb" 10.0 Avvo Rating.
I'm licensed to practice law in Michigan and New York. I graduated from the University of Michigan Law School.
To discuss your case, give me a call at 248-924-9458 or email me. I am available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. It may take me a moment to get back to you as I may be in court or with my family, but I will do my best to respond within this time frame.
